From the Books

The guide's curated pages quote and summarize each tradition's teaching. This page is the layer underneath: 1,971 passages drawn straight from the books themselves, in public-domain translations, every one cited to its book and verse, and organized under Alan's Eight Practices, with two foundation shelves (Knowledge & Learning; Consciousness & Peace) for passages about the climb itself.

A note on method: these passages were drawn from the full texts of the books, and each is a genuine quotation with a checkable citation. A handful of verses state a view their own text argues against a few lines later; the context lives in the books themselves. Wording varies by translation, so the translation is named in every citation.

Eleven of the guide's twelve traditions have books gathered here. Indigenous wisdom, the twelfth, keeps its teachings largely in oral tradition and has no single book to quote; its passages live in the guide's curated pages. The secular shelf is represented by its Stoic books.
